Description: Montseny Nature Park , covering 30,000 hectares, is the largest in Barcelona province. Considered a nature park thanks to its great biodiversity. Declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1978 as it is hinterland contains Mediterranean and central European landscapes. The trail starts at Collformic and rises to Matagalls, one of the most emblematic peaks in the massif and from where you can take in the stunning views of the entire park. On the return journey, you will cross mountain meadows and ancient beech woods arriving in Sant Miquel de Barretons, a chapel perched among the escarpments, and Sant Segimon , an ancient mediaeval sanctuary.

Location: Serra de Collserola Nature Park.
Description: This route starts by watching the sunrise over Barcelona from an observatory where you’ll have the opportunity to take great photos of the city. On the trail, we’ll visit places of huge ecological merit difficult to imagine so close to Barcelona. The trail also offers the chance to visit the great historical and artistic heritage of this landscape, with examples such as Romanesque churches. Near the tucked-away Vallvidrera reservoir, we will stop for lunch to recharge our batteries for the last section which, having passed one of the park’s most emblematic fountains, will take us Tibidabo. At 512 metres, it’s the highest point in the mountain range and from where we can once again enjoy the stunning views over Barcelona.

Take the trail also at other times of the day when it’s equally as beautiful. However, in summer try and avoid midday when temperatures are at their hottest.

Name: Panoramic Montserrat.
Location: Montserrat Mountain Nature Park.
Description: This route starts with a visit to the Montserrat monastery founded more than a thousand years ago and the pilgrimage destination for thousands of people every year. Its venerated virgin is the patron saint of Catalonia and that’s why for the Catalans, Montserrat is their sacred mountain. We then enter the nature park, which because of its geology and beauty is unique in the world. As it wends its way past one of the chapels dotted across the massif, the path takes us to Sant Jeroni. This is the highest point, offering stunning sweeping views from the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean. We will return to the monastery along the Cami dels Franceses, used by Napoleon’s troops during his attack on the monastery in the nineteenth century.

SANT LLORENÇ DEL MUNT I L’OBAC

Description: The Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac Nature Park has always been a wild and sparsely populated terrain, which is why there are so many legends about it. Its hinterland is home to old buildings at La Roca, los Obits, where it is said that counterfeit coins were minted, and an ancient abandoned monastery. We will start the route at the Coll de Estenalles for Montcau, the second highest peak in the park, with a very unique geology. Descending the path, through the Mediterranean forest and a narrow canal, we come to the imposing peak of La Mola, one of Catalonia’s top belvederes and a place to recharge our batteries if we wish. To return, we will take the monastery’s old supply route along which provisions were carried by mule and now used by the restaurant.

Location: Alt Penedés county.
Description: Vines have been grown in the Penedés for over two thousand years and today it is Catalonia’s most important wine-growing region and the cradle of Cava. There are dozens of vineyards in this area, which for centuries was a border region between Christians and Muslims. On our route, we will be visiting Bodegas Torres, one of the biggest and most internationally famous vineyards. At the end of the visit, we’ll travel through the vineyards to reach the small village of Sant Martí Sarroca whose church and castle, protected by a natural promontory, are of great historical value.
